The Lamento de Tristan is formed by the pairing of two 13th Century melodies- the Estampie and La Rotta. The Estampie sums up perfectly the tragedy of Tristan’s predicament. La Rotta is a lively dance which contasts markedly with the opening Estampie. This arrangement by Martin Watson explores both the pathos of the Estampie and exploits the excitement of La Rotta. This arrangement is for an ensemble of two descant, treble, tenor, bass, and great bass recorders, plus tambourine.
