SOPRANO 2 from Down by the Salley Gardens SSAA
The poet Yeats had strong connection with County Sligo. the Salley Gardens too, are said to have been in that county, near the village of Ballisodare, where the locals planted willows - salley in Hiberno-English - for use in thatching.
Yeats is reported to have heard an old woman sing a version of The Salley Gardens, which he constructed into a more refined form.
The tune, The Maids of Mourne, is traditional.
