The first part requires an E-flat or piccolo trumpet in the final movement. The first and third movements are to be very sustained and legato, while the second (a quick fugue) and the last (a fanfare-style finale) are more energetic. The original concerto was in G-major, so C-trumpets could be used instead of B-flat, to reproduce the original key.
