The piece is written for Solo Clarinet in Bb, Clarinet 1/2/3a/3b/4 in Bb and Bass Clarinet in Bb. The piece is in ternary form with a simple melody at the beginning which is supported and added to as the section progresses. The middle section is in the tonic minor and involves fast scale passages in a polphonic style. The final section sees a return to the orinal theme with hints of the middle section in a more complex, polyphonic arrangement which requires some reasonably advanced playing from the Solo Clarinet.
