Alto Saxophone from The Silk Road [Sax Quartet]
The Silk Road is a term describing several trade routes used between Europe, Asia, and western Africa for thousands of years. This piece for saxophone quartet is meant to evoke the "exotic" (to westerners) sound of Arabian music through the use of an altered harmonic minor scale. The piece features each individual saxophone at different points throughout as well as fast scalar work and liberal use of the saxophone’s entire register, resulting in a technically challenging but rewarding piece of music.
