In High School we discussed the sonata form in Music History, and I was eager to see what one would look like if made by Michael Drewes. That’s how this String Quartet came into being. It was performed on August 27th, 1964, as "Sonata in G-Major" (Allegro-Adagio-Allegro Finale; the other movements are later additions) with the orchestra of the German School in Mexico City, with Josefina Alvarez Ierena conducting. In those times we could of course not imagine in our wildest dreams that one day "Sibelius" or similar software would exist. A photocopy of the original handwritten score is kept in the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem under Record or System Number 001332963, DC Classification 785.74 Chamber music - Scores and parts: Arrangements, Excerpts - Quartets.

This string quartet was performed in the Jewish Museum of Florida in Miami Beach in a classical music concert by Florida Jewish composer Dr. Michael Drewes in honor of Florida Jewish History Month on Tuesday, 24 January 2006 by members of the New World Symphony of Miami, namely, as shown in the picture included:

1st Violin: Truong Nguyen 2nd Violin: Ann Okagaito Viola: Erik Rynearson Violoncello: Milena Mateeva

Listen to the MP3 file of the first movement from the recording of this concert. I have now corrected some errors of this score. The MP3 files of the other movements can be found in their respective scores.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
