Bass Trombone from Symphony No1(2): Symphony for Scotland. The Gathering.
2nd Movement Second Movement: Sruthlagach (Many small steams)
Symphony No1 is a program piece, taking it's setting from four scenes along the journey of water gathering from the sky to the sea. Some have said perhaps not a symphony but a symphonic poem.
Second Movement, Many Small Streams: Quick flowing, articulate, rhythmic and crisp. This movement draws from Scottish folk style. The closing passages are intended to be ‘chaotic’ with the distinct melodic figures at the fore.
