This music is inspired by a 19th-century melodrama by Henrik Ibsen, who also wrote "Peer Gynt." Hedda Gabler, the title character, is an archetypical bad girl who amuses herself by ruining people's lives. She also likes to play with guns, and in the end she is outdone and shoots herself in the head. Naturally, my piece is steeped in good-old fashioned romanticism.
