The 'cottager' of the title refers to any man who will habitually frequent areas which are usually secluded (and popular amongst men of a similar bent). This is known in the vernacular as 'cottaging'. Hampstead Heath in London is a famous and much loved haunt for cottagers but any public parkland will do.
