This work, for chamber orchestra (1111.1111.pno.4111) was written for the faculty of the Luzerne Music Center. The tuba part may be played on bass trombone, and the "opt. 8va" passage in the second movement should be played on piccolo trumpet, if possible. The first movement, which features solo trombone throughout, is an adaptation of an origonal setting of the Ave Verum text that was intended for performance with either voice or trombone on the principal line. The second movement is a theme and variations on a theme loosely based on the hymn tune "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet." The third movement takes its inspuration from the music of the minimalists, particularly Steve Reich's work Drumming.
