The preface for “The Distra…ction” is how easily one can be distracted from a single thought. The thought is the first three notes and then returns subtly and not so subtly throughout the rest of the piece. Each time the thought tries to develop itself, it is quickly overpowered and another thought takes over until finally it is heard throughout the entire ensemble.
