You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices.A charming poem by Clément Marot with the original title "De soy mesme" [Epigr III,53-55] (1532) has been set to music by Clément Jannequin (c.1485–1558), Jacquet de Berchem (c.1505-1567), Pierre Certon (1515-1572), Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778). An anonymous setting published by Moncrif in 1757 (republished by Jean Baptiste Weckerlin in Echo du temps passé 1855 and also by Clarence Dickinson in Troubadour Songs 1920) has been found to come from the Harmonious Blacksmith, 1720, by G.F. Handel. Here this setting in 7/4 keeps the light and facetious tone of Marot’s delightful character. The English rendition is by Helen Adell Dickinson (1875-1957), publ. 1920.
Literal translation (AJ): 1. No more am I what I have been, And could never be again: My fair Springtime and my Summer Have jumped through the window!
2. Love, you have been my Master I have served you above all gods; Oh if I could be born twice How much better would I serve you!
