Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.

Static preview

The static preview shows a basic image of the first page.

Interactive preview

The interactive preview also shows a preview of the first page, but it's a bit slower to load. The preview is displayed using the Sibelius Cloud Publishing technology from Avid. With most scores, this technology will provide a higher quality preview, as well as being able to switch to full screen mode and also play the displayed music to you.

Printing after purchase

After you have purchased this item the Cloud Publishing technology is utilised to provide the printing mechanism for the music. As such, we recommend checking that the Interactive Preview displays correctly on your device before committing to a purchase.

Full details

This song is one of six in a collection of arrangements of some of Kern's best-known songs entitled Kernucopia, which aims to augment the resources available to string quartets called on to perform short, light numbers at functions such as weddings and other celebrations. Quartets with little time to practise will particularly appreciate the use of keys congenial to string players.

Kernucopia comprises arrangements of songs composed over approximately 20 years of Kern's collaborations with various lyricists. His method was to write the music first, with the lyricist obliged to fit his/her words into the melody, as Kern was not willing to make adjustments.

The four parts are of roughly equal difficulty, and care has been taken to ensure that each instrument has a share of the limelight in the collection as a whole. However, in WHO? and CAN-T HELP LOVING 'DAT MAN the cello part has no share in the melody line.

Jerome Kern (1885 – 1945) wrote many of the most popular show songs of the first half of the twentieth century; standards which rank alongside those of Gershwin, Berlin, Rodgers, Carmichael and Cole Porter.

Kernucopia has been free to download from Scorch , as a promotion. However, the original plan in uploading these scores was to donate any money so raised to the fabric fund at my place of worship. These songs by Jerome Kern have proved particularly popular as a free download, so I hope potential customers will not be deterred by the modest cost. I am planning to offer all six songs in the Kernucopia collection together as a single item, at a lower price than that of all the items individually, so if you were thinking of downloading more than one song you may like to hold back for a while.
