This is post Swing big band jazz of the kind Woody Herman or Count Basie's orchestra might have played, but written for a recorder orchestra. It starts with an upbeat, straight ahead theme which evolves into something much more funky before dissolving into a lush ballad. But like many jazz ballad's the rhythm section is just itching to get back to the original swinging theme. The piece was first performed by the National (British) Youth Recorder Orchestra under the direction of Colin Touchin.
