Glory Days and Hallelujah Nights is a ‘Celebration of Gospel Music’ for Recorder orchestra. To begin the piece, different sections of the orchestra use a technique known as ‘call and response’ which an a cappella gospel choir would typically employ to induce a sense of religious fervour and excitement, with shouts of “Glory” and “Hallelujah”. As the piece develops, it traces many of Gospel Music’s major stylistic developments during the C20th, often influencing or being influenced by tastes in popular music of the time.
