Alto part from Hold On Hold Tight

Composer
Duration
4 minutes
Genre
Rock and Pop Music

Notes on the parts: Vocals: There are parts for a female lead vocal with a back-up group of three male singers. Back-up entrances are marked clearly; aside from the C section notated for bass clef, the back-ups should sing one octave lower. Strings: This is primarily for violins, but it is written for possible adaptation with a fuller section (e.g., viola and/or cello). Bass: Slap technique can be employed in various places at the player’s choice. Drums: The written part is a starting point that suggests the groove (along with the bass); other fills may be added.

Notes on performance: 1. For a slightly shorter version, you can go directly from the second verse (B section) to the instrumental break (C section). 2. I have written several suggestions for the instrumental break (respectively, for the back-up vocalists, strings, and horn section). These are not to be played/sung simultaneously; they are merely scored that way for convenience. They can be sequenced in any way, even adding improvised solos if desired (for piano, guitar, etc.). As the horn section break is written for the second ending, this is probably the best way to end the break and lead into the next section.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
