Bb Bass part from Durham Suite (Brass Band)

6 minutes

My first attempt at a larger work (although really it is just three smaller works joined together).

Market Place. This depicts the centre of Durham City, the Council chambers are here within the Town Hall. The movement starts of in a fanfare style to represent the Major and the civic functions, this makes way for a march to represent the many bands that march through the market place, especially on Durham Miners Gala Day, this is a circus type march to also represent the many entertainers the market place attracts. The movement ends with the opening fanfare.

2. Cathedral. This movement starts with the bells of Durham Cathedral chiming, these are the actual notes and rhythm of the bells. Then follows a hymn with a descant and fanfares.

3. The Event. This movemet depicts the many horse type events that goes on in the area. I got the idea for this movement when I looked out of my study window one day and saw an event going on in the field on the hill.

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
