Much of his music reflects the antiphonal possibilities of this great cathedral, with its many galleries from which the musicians could perform. This is one of Gabrieli’s numerous Canzonas, arranged for brass quintet. The dotted figure which first appears at bar 32 is imitated in each voice at all possible positions in the bar, a minor tour de force. Horn in Eb, Trombone in Bb, Bass in Eb and Bass in Bb parts are provided as alternatives for brass band players.
