Once I discovered the manuscript paper "Mariachi Band", I felt compelled to arrange the third movement of my First Symphony for it. Nevertheless, I think that the "Guitarrn" was not well understood, because it is an acoustic bass guitar with a very big and rounded body the sound of which is like that of a double bass. As a matter of fact, it is tuned in E, A, D, G. I myself once had a Guitarrn, while living in Mexico. For the foregoing reasons I added a contrabass to the score to make the harmonic foundation more conspicuous. The "Vihuela" is a small guitar known in Mexico as "Requinto" or "Charango" if its body is made of armadillo hide.
