The Cinderella is an opera by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto by Jacopo Ferretti. The full original title is La Cenerentola, ossia La bontà in trionfo. The subject was taken from the famous fairy tale by Charles Perrault, but Farooq is also served by two opera librettos: Cendrillon by Charles Guillaume Etienne to Nicolò Isouard (1810) and Hanna, or virtue rewarded by Francis Faure for Stefano Pavesi (1814). The work was composed in about three weeks and Rossini, as he did on other occasions, entrusted to a server (in this case, Luca Agolini) composition of recitatives and airs less important, those of Alidoro and Clorinda. The first performance took place on January 25, 1817 at the Teatro Valle in Rome.
