A beautiful text about a "river below the river" by the Scottish poet Maggie Wallis describes a stream’s origin among silent pine trees, "twists and tumbles" as it descends; later its lazy meandering "on a soft bed of sand", finaly ending under the river Orin, "her voices now drowned in the multitude". The "voices" of the stream which Maggie describes are portrayed in my setting for SATB most vividly: this will challenge but delight an accomplished choir, and the result should be magical.
