Known as Carol of the Bells, this Leontovich peice was originally called Shedryck, which is the name on the score. You can call it whatever you want in your performances. This carol has been the inspiration for many different arrangements since it was originally set by M. Leontovich in 1916. The best known is Wilhousky's "Carol of the Bells". Wilhousky wrote the words now traditionally sung to these notes 20 years after the original composition. This arrangement attempts to introduce a bit of New Year revelry while maintaining much of the familiar. The euphonium part is optional and doubles other parts. We use it in our ensemble for some extra low note energy. It is possible to sing several vocal arrangements of this carol with this brass arrangement. The vocal parts would start after the introduction.
