Away Day Blues - Instrument Parts part from Away Day Blues

Composer
Duration
3 minutes
Genre
Jazz music and Blues music

Away Day Blues is a simple trad jazz tune I penned after my football team suffered a last-minute defeat in an away match. I feel the tune pretty much sums up my mood at the time!

Please check out the recording for a sort-of realistic rendition. The last play-through of the tune in the recording is done with other instruments improvising around the tune for a proper Dixieland feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this - it adds so much to the overall feel if you've got other instruments noodling around. The slow, simple chord progression makes this a really good tune for people who are newer to jazz & improvisation.

There are no lyrics at the moment, but I wouldn't mind having a go at writing some. If your band would like to sing it as well as play it then let me know - michael.roberts@ucl.ac.uk - and I'll take that as motivation to write some words!

Hope you enjoy it :-)

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
