This is one of several short instrumental pieces I wrote whilst living in Istanbul - I was the horn teacher at the conservatory of Istanbul University. Harmonically it’s reminiscent of the "gymnopodie" genre of Erik Satie. There was a large ballet department housed at the conservatory, which might have prompted this piece. It should be played without any rubato (except for the short cadenza-like passage) but with very expressive phrasing.
