An easy arrangement incorporating the tunes "Noel nouvelet", "God rest ye merry gentlemen" and "Tra va ruggit Chreest". The three violin parts are essential as are the cello and double bass. The viola part is not the same as any of the other parts but may be omitted if necessary. The untuned percussion parts, for tambourine, tenor drum and bass drum, are optional.

The violin, or fiddle, has four strings which are tuned to the notes G, D, A and E. "Fiddle E" is the highest open string and makes a particularly clear sound even with very young players. This piece makes a feature of the "Fiddle E" sound and combines it with three Christmas melodies - one from France, one from England and one from the Isle of Man, where the piece was written.
