This setting of the Latin text of Iste Confessor, the traditional Office Hymn for the Requiem and Memorial of a Confessor, conforms to the outlines of the ancient chant, but is gently metrical and subtly embellished. The alternation between duple and triple time renders it chant-like, and suitable for a procession. It should be sung steadily, not too slowly, using a slightly swung beat, good phrasing and clear diction.
