Although Duo No. VI is one of those rare exceptions when Darr relegates Guitar II to the accompaniment; it is not a simple didactic part. To the contrary, it is interesting and a delight to play. It is the thematic material, however, that endears the listener to this music. After the noble octave-singing melody of the introduction, the second movement draws forth a good-humored, gypsy-like theme. The village dance-like theme in m. 21-28 offers an effective contrast to the primary theme. In the final analysis, the work illustrates Darrs notable gift for melody. The first known publication of this work was in 1905, in the Augsburg Guitar Clubs Freie Vereinigung fr das Frderung guter Guitaremusik, Jahrgang 2, Heft VI. In this work, the differences between the printers copy and the printed version is considerable. Most of the omissions of the printed version are dynamic markings in the Guitar II part. For example, the piano marking in Guitar II of m.10 does not appear in the printed version. An important oversight however, is the note F# in Guitar II m. 5; the printed version has an A. For more information on Darr see my DMA research paper "ADAM DARR (1811-1866) THE CAREER AND WORKS OF A GERMAN ROMANTIC GUITARIST AND ZITHERIST."
