As a composer leaving college it was difficult to secure performances of my music. However I was very fortunate in soon coming into contact with the Bromley Oecumenical Singers where I was encouraged by Harry Gregory MBE. He gave me good advice on writing for organ in particular the entrance anthem I composed for my wedding. I always promised Harry after this that I would write him a concerto. The nearest I got to doing this was writing an extended organ solo in my first large scale choral work commissioned by the choir "Song of Praise".

This work was commissioned by the choir as a memorial tribute upon his death in December 2000. The work is a lyrical tribute the climax of the work quoting the actual organ solo from Song of Praise. The words at this point are "It is good to praise the Lord and make music to his name" which sums up Harry's life in music and his devotion to church music over the years.

The first performance was given by the Bromley Oecumenical Singers Concert Orchestra, with Tim Horton (organ) and Richard Apsley (conductor) on 17 November 2001 at St Mark's Church, Westmoreland Road, Bromley
