It is best known as the tune to the song ‘Danny Boy’, with lyrics by English lawyer and author Frederic Edward Weatherly. Apparently, Weatherly’s original version, which was set to different music, was not particularly successful. His sister sent him the music for the Londonderry Air, Weatherly tweaked his lyrics to match and the rest is history…
