Often in the Orthodox tradition the verses of the Magnificat are interspersed with the text of this antiphon. In this setting the English words are set to rich harmonies from Tchaikovsky's Liturgy of St John Chrysostom (Opus 11), the 8-part choir being doubled with the organ. When this antiphon is used the Magnificat words can be simply chanted in the Key of C Major, with inflections. This nicely pairs with the Nunc Dimittis (in B Major) by Alexander Tikhonovich Gretchaninov for an unusually opulent set of Evening Canticles.
