Louis Walters

Louis J Walters (eJLe) is the grey office worker by day who escapes into colourful projects by night as eLJe. He dreamt of becoming an astronaut, designer and architect since child drawings, yet developed into art music composer by age 14. He became a university graduate in composition, became a music teacher before entering the corporate world, and a few years later in a then waggish move was elected as one of the few Africans in the Mars One astronaut project. While becoming an astronaut is now out of bounds, his music aspirations have become a prime part-time focus, working on a number of promising projects.

Studied composition under Stefans Grové, who studied under Aaron Copland and Walter Piston, and graduated in music theory, orchestration and composition at the University of Pretoria South Africa in 1997. Other key mentors were composer Henk Temmingh and pianist Wessel van Wyk.

Later awarded a bursary from the South African Music Rights Organisation and the Chancellor’s Trust Prize from the University of Potchefstroom, he continued a passion for composition as a hobby into the 2000s.

Today, sculpting a career in brand management and digital marketing with an international investment management company while advancing toward new heights in the music industry. After meeting film score composer Christopher Young and producer Andy Hill at a seminar for composers he enjoyed the performance of a 20 minutes work in Bulgaria by the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra in February 2020. Following this breakthrough moment he has been partnering with several artists who are opening opportunities to write music inspired by literature and screenplay.

Other parts of his persona include studying languages English, French, Spanish, and isiZulu, and running a private business in marketing consulting that does design work, website building, and digital marketing. He leads a private life in the west of Johannesburg South Africa, close to nature, and conducts his day-job mostly from home.
