Rick Barnes
Over the past 18 years, Rick has served as music director in three wonderful churches, including Covenant Presbyterian in Birmingham, AL where he has served since 2013. Rick believes present-day choirs need a more expansive repertoire with relevant, theologically-rich selections that parallel the beauty and energy of Hollywood blockbusters and musical theatre. This has been his compositional focus, writing choral-orchestral anthems influenced by the works of Prokofiev, Debussy, John Williams and Hans Zimmer. Rick's love for film music occasionally shows up in his arrangements for congregational singing as well, drawing from influences such as Chad Lawson and Johann Johannsson.
Currently, Rick is creating a new work based on a familiar Old Testament story. He also tours as pianist with The Corner Room, a ministry that sets word-for-word ESV Scripture translation to music (https://www.cornerroommusic.com). Rick lives in Birmingham, AL with his beautiful wife and two children.
