Sam Desmet
Belgian guitarist Dr. Sam Desmet earned a reputation in the late 2000s for performing and recording a mix of works from well-established composers with lesser-known or contemporary repertoire. Desmet often branches out by collaborating with artists and art forms such as dance, painting, architecture, animation, film, and poetry. Sam performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Asia, Europe, and the US.
Desmet recorded a series of guitar studies which composers and several music critics praise for its ‘high level of musical insight’ and describe his playing as being ‘full of sensibility’. This album, along with ongoing releases ranging from film music to folk song arrangements, is now available on all streaming platforms.
In addition to performing and recording, Sam often publishes original works, arrangements, and critical editions of music scores available on his website or through international publishers such as Productions d’Oz and Edizioni Berben / Curzi. Dr. Desmet gained over 20 years of teaching experience at music academies and previously served as guitar faculty at music academies, the Conservatory of Bruges, the University of Miami, Valencia College, and Stetson University. Several of his students won competitions and performed at Carnegie Hall. He is often asked as an adjudicator and lecturer for international music festivals and competitions.
