[Please note that my online presence has just been undertaken. Connected webpages are mostly in progress. Thank you.] Payman Akhlaghi is an Iranian American Composer, Pianist, and Private Piano Educator, based in Los Angeles.

Currently a PhD Candidate in Composition at UCLA, Payman holds the following degrees: MA in Composition – UCLA; BA in Music/Composition, with a Minor in Philosophy – UCLA; AA in General Science and Music – Santa Monica College, SMC.

in 2004, His MA Thesis, "String Quartet: Mirage of an Echo" received the First Honorable mention from the Jury of the 2004 Lutoslawski International Compoetition, Warsaw, Ploand.

His art compositions so far include a large array of works for solo piano, as well as for other mediums, including: "As a Star in Nebula", for solo piano; Two Poems for Solo Piano: " Voices of the Abyss", "To a Rose in the Desert"; Three Short Pieces for Solo Piano: "Haiku", "Hyperbola", "Heartbeats of Light"; "Boundaries of Solitude" for violina and piano; "Secrets of the Wind" for symphonic orchestra; "War & Peace I", an essay on voice via electronic media; "Caveman's Dream", a short essay in electronic music; "The Dream of You", for Soprano, Baritone and Piano, both English lyrics and music.

His works also include compositions on Persian and Hebrew poetry, including: "Ala Ya Ayoha'assaghi", based on the poetry of Hafiz; "Adon Olam", based on the Hebrew prayer;

In addition to his traditional classical training, Payman is also fluent in improvisation, as well as many popular piano or song styles. Outside the classical realm, however, his main interest lies in Film Music. Indeed, his pre-candidacy defense was partly based on on his decades-long study of music in film, art-films and popular genres, equally.

His interests include Classical Music, Cinema, Film Music, and Popular Music, as well as Painting, Poetry, Literature, and Philosophy.

His musicological studies have covered a study of the history of Prelude; a comparative study of the music of Liszt and Debussy; a study of Exoticism in the Classical repertoire; a study of Brahms's Op. 10, No. 1 work for piano, based on the Scottish poem, "Edward"; a study of "Abscihed" from Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde", among others.

As a translator and editor, Payman Akhlaghi has also worked on numerous articles for Iranian Jewish organization of Los Angeles, and his name appears as a translator and/or editor on four books, commissioned by the members of the Iranian Jewish Community of Los Angeles or its affiliated organizations.
