Learnt the piano, oboe and clarinet whilst at school. Joined the Royal Marines Band Service as an oboeist, also studying the piano. Has served 33 years in the Royal Marines, the last 14 years as a Director of Music, conducting and composing and arranging music primarily for the Royal Marines Bands. Gained the LRAM and ARCM in conducting and has gone on to gain a BA(Hons) in Band Musicianship and a MMus in composition. Won the Elgar Howarth Compositional prize while studying at University College Salford (Now Salford University). Enjoys playing piano, guitar and piano accordion and writing music in all styles and for all genres. Active member of local Baptist church and keen sea canoeist, sailor and walker.
