Alistair McCulloch, is one of the busiest and best-known fiddlers in Scotland and is in constant demand as a performer, composer and teacher. He graduated with first class honours in Music from the University of Strathclyde in 1998. To date he has recorded 3 solo albums and 4 albums with his famous ceilidh band ‘Coila’

For several years Alistair was a soloist with the renowned Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, with which he performed in some of the UK’s major concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall and Barbican, London; Birmingham Town Hall; the Ulster Hall, Belfast; Glasgow Royal Concert Hall; and the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. He also works widely as a session musician having performed, toured and recorded with many Scottish artists and appeared on over 35 albums. In recent years Alistair has performed in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Poland, Greece, Iceland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand, China, Venezuela, Nigeria, Tunisia, Dubai, Kuwait and Qatar.

Alistair is a renowned composer and commissions have included an orchestral score to commemorate the visit of the Olympic torch to Ayrshire, a piece premiered at the Edinburgh Festival celebrating the life and times of the Orkney writer, George Mackay Brown, and a suite for William Grant & Sons of Glenfiddich Whisky. His first book of compositions ‘The Alistair McCulloch Collection’ was recently reprinted.

Alistair’s teaching roles include being Scots Fiddle tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and director of the sensational young string group, Innovation.
