As a composer, Alan is very much interested in carrying on early music in present times, but also enjoys composing in later styles too. Among his works can be found quite a number of fugues and other neo-baroque compositions, nineteenth century style piano pieces, a historical musical drama, and, more modern sounding, spiritual songs.

Beyond enjoying time with his wife and daughter in Vancouver, BC, Canada, apart from offering music theory and piano lessons to students, Alan teaches also critical thinking and academic writing, literature, creative writing. Whether inspiring curiousity, cultivating a love of learning or developing critical awareness,Alan finds teaching deeply satisfying, especially enabling to students to not merely "repeat the words," but truly understand for themselves!

A graduate of Laurentian University(Ontario) and Wilfrid Laurier University(Ontario), Alan holds a BA in Music & Philosophy and an MA in Religion & Culture, as well as an Ethics Certificate(Laurentian) and a CELTA diploma(Cambridge University). Intent on pursuing a PhD in interdisciplinary studies, Alan is seeking to combine teaching in liberal arts(ethics, philosophy, literature, etc.) and music into one life long venture.

Inspired, supported and encouraged by many in his life, Alan is especially grateful to his three mentors, Dr. Douglass Webb(music theory), Paul Ellis(piano) and Peter Erb(curiousity, miracles and narrowness), his friends and colleagues, Jennifer Bardeggia, Carrie Tsai and Kirk Elliot, and, most certainly, members of his family, especially his eldest sister and his parents.
