Born in 1966, Andrew Gustar is a self-taught pianist and composer based in Bristol, UK. He is currently studying for a PhD in Statistical Musicology, and is a director of a professional chamber orchestra. Recent premieres include 'Fantasia' for bassoon and piano (premiered by Franck Leblois in Angouleme, France, on 31 March 2006); 'Air' and 'Blue Minute' for solo double bass (premiered by Eloise Riddell at Wells Cathedral School (UK) on 30 September 2007); 'Thelonius Blacksmith (a bebop passacaglia after Handel)' for chamber organ (premiered by Paul Ayres at St George's Church, Hanover Square, London, on 19 October 2007); and 'So Anyway…' for two double-bass quartets (premiered at Wells Cathedral School on 20 April 2008). His 'Prélude I: les resonances' (from the suite 'Cinq Petits Préludes Pour le Clavecin, d'après François Couperin') won an honourable mention in the Seventh Aliénor International Harpsichord Composition Competition in March 2008.
