I hold two degrees from Arkansas State University: the Bachelor of Music Education and the Master of Music in Composition. I studied composition with Dr. Jared Spears at ASU and with Kamran Ince at the University of Memphis. My works have been performed in numerous venues across the United States. I was a high school band director in Arkansas for thirteen years, and I have been active in several performing groups, most notably the Memphis Saxophone Quartet and the Temptations.
I believe that music is so much more than simple entertainment. It is an art like no other, expressing the full range of human emotion, and having the power to both touch and mold the human spirit. Musicians must wield that special power with care, seeking always (as stated eloquently by Beethoven) to ennoble and uplift the listener.
One might say that music was my first love, but I now hope that my music might reveal a much higher Love. May the Lord God use me, my music, and my words to point others beyond themselves, beyond the ordinary and mundane, toward that which is glorious, beautiful, and precious beyond measure. Let God alone be glorified in all that I do, and let my works fulfill His purposes rather than my own.
