Doug Bates

I composed my first piece of music at the age of 50 – it’s never too late to start! I am purely amateur – for the love of it. I studied piano through my teen years, then lapsed for decades while pursuing a busy work and family life. When I finally returned to it I began to find an original voice. Yet, I don’t know for sure how original it is. Tunes seemed to be waiting to be heard, echoing from other lands and bygone times. The creative aspect of art is thus for me a joyful discovery of the myriad connections that sustain and inspire me, and expression is the homage I gratefully return.
