Having never received a formal training in composition, I have had to apply to the classical environment many of the habits formed during years of writing jazz arrangements. Apart from the strong lyrical lines, I gather this often becomes apparent in the harmonic structures and progressions. The word ‘accessible’ has been applied to my work, and this causes me no concern at all.

The full orchestral pieces use all the usual instruments (with the occasional inclusion of cor anglais, bass clarinet and harp) and I have resisted most of the effects that normally call for an additional ‘kitchen department’.
