New music is a wonderfull thing; the world today is changing all the time and it’s music needs to keep up with this relentless pace. Through my music I look at the struggles of the modern western world; the anxiety this fast pace can bring, the fracturing of old ways of organising our philosephies about life and the sence of personal dislocation this can sometimes bring with it, as well as a sence of a brave new world. In this respect I regard my work as highly political, because the personal is political.

Thom began composing at age 16, he is currently in his second year studying composition at the RCS (formerly RSAMD) with Oliver Searle. Performances of note include ‘Landscapes’ for solo piano in 2009 and ‘Schlafen’ which was reviewed by Michael Tumelty for the Herald, (May 6th 2011) “…we heard four more songs to be leaved into the Glasgow Liederbuch, and four beauties, too, from… Thom Norman… demonstrating an impressive understanding of the need to allow space in a song for the voice to speak”. He also runs Said Ensemble with fellow composers Matthew Whiteside and Jason Staddon.
