Heard on ABC Network’s “20/20 Special” as well as at the Lincoln Center, composer Makia Matsumura has been enjoying her career in divergent fields: from film soundtrack to concert music, pops or jazz to classical, electronic to acoustic, music clubs to symphony halls.

Also active as a pianist since early age with performance credits ranging from the world’s most renowned stages in Europe, the US and Japan, she has been enjoying a successful career as a silent film accompanist as an outlet to combine her talent and passion for composition, film scoring, piano performance and improvisation all into one. It is no surprise that her performances have been garnering high praises at theatres at noted venues such as the Museum of Modern Arts and the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City; the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY; the Pordenone Silent Film Festival in Pordenone, Italy; and the National Film Center at the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

Holding her degrees in composition from the Tokyo University of the Arts and The Juilliard School, Makia currently resides in New York City, actively working as a composer, silent film pianist, accompanist, and arranger. Her upcoming activities include collaborations with Japanese sculptor/visual artist Minako Yoshino and silent film accompaniment appearances in both the US and Japan throughout the 2013-2014 season.
