Beethoven’s setting of the Ode to Joy is the high point of his 9th Symphony. This adaptation of the main theme for four cellos develops the "chorale" sound of groups of cellos. The Cello 2 part requires third position, Cello 3 requires 2nd posn only, and Cello 4 can be played in first position.
