Passacaglia was created at the end of a composition course with Scott Godin at the Dalhousie University in Halifax (Canada).
This quintet is a meditation on the concept of ‘passacaglia’, both in the more specific idea of cycling harmonic structure, as well as in the more general mood somewhat referring to the 'musique galante', among whose preferred forms were the passacaglia or chaconne.
As a consequence, the whole piece is a play (or match?) between the lightest way of intending music, and the most rigorous formal structure. A clash that cannot leave the good old passacaglia intact.
The included audio file is just a rough rendition via the VLS instruments supplied with the Kontakt standard library.
