William Baines (1899-1922) was a gifted Yorkshire composer and pianist who died tragically young at the aged of only 23. Whilst he is largely remembered for his solo piano works he also wrote a large-scale Symphony, chamber and instrumental music and a number of songs.
Dream Temple was never published during his lifetime and is a striking recital piece featuring unusual harmonies and a typically Bainesian coda. It was premiered by the Yorkshire violinist John Dunn at the Wigmore Hall.
