This work was first performed at The Friends Meeting House, Brighton 23/07/2009 by Anne Hodgson and Adam Swain.
The starting point for this work was the image of a slowly moving low to medium register flute over thick ominous chords in the piano. Having realized this I noticed that I had effectively composed a two note melody for the flute. This two note idea then became the subject for the fugue, supplanting other ideas I had at the time.
