Where Would You Be Without Friends was written for the orchestra at Wallington High School for Girls – an orchestra consisting, at the time, of strings and plentiful upper woodwinds. The parts are differentiated, the first violins, flute and oboe requiring about grade 7 proficiency, the other parts, grades 5-6. My express motivation when writing this music was to create something attractive and accessible that the students could make their own. The excerpted recording featured here was made by the students.
