This flashy show-piece, as the name suggests, conveys images of flashing ’sparks’ through the use of a staccato theme and extremely fast scale passages, which require a great deal of technical ability. A happy and lively mood is consistent throughout the piece although the dynamics are nearly always quiet.
This would make a good short finale to a concert programme, or to a diploma - it is, for example, on the Trinity Guildhall ATCL Recital Diploma list.
NB. The original French title uses, of course an upper-case E acute at the start - I didn’t go for that in the catalogue, as it then places the score alphabetically after ’Z’!
