Lorsque l’enfant paraît
“When the child comes in, the whole family cheers loudly. His gentle, bright-eyed expression brings a twinkle to everyone’s eyes, and even the saddest brows (the most troubled, perhaps?) suddenly break into a smile to see the child appear, innocent and happy.”
Probably a slightly idealised (not to say excessively rose-tinted) view of what life with a young child is really like, but this opening stanza of a poem by Victor Hugo, a distant memory from my school days that came to mind recently, makes an ideal text for the kind of slushy, gushy, mushy song that I enjoy writing.
